The All Rounder of 89 Batch

I am sure all of us will have a lot to say/write about

“Roshny A George”

This is what comes to my mind when I think of her:
1. An all rounder in Academics and Extra Curricular Activities. %
2. Rosh with her guitar rocking MCC especially with her instrumental fast track. Whenever she got her guitar to school I would ask her to play it and she readily accepted. I can even hear it now as I write this………
3. White House Prefect (It was a big loss to the Blue House).
4. Tutions at Mrs. Delphine’s place and the fun we used to have.

5. Last but not the least nicknames: RAG & JAMES BOND

Dr. Roshny has specialized in Internal Medicine and is working as a Physician in USA.

Rosh was on a whirlwind trip to India last month (October) and had met with Anne, Rekha and Sabina. A trip to MCC to meet their dear teachers was on the agenda. Click on the link below to view the pictures:

89 Batch Get Together: 3rd August 2008

The day started off well and our first guest to arrive was Sr. Sheena Sparshidha (Sheena Charles). I met her just outside the school and we both just screamed our names. She then ordered me to call her Sr. Sheena. We still can't call her Sr. Sheena :)

Friends started arriving by 9.30 and the teachers came by 10. We were so glad to be among our teachers and we kept sharing our good old memories with every teacher we met. I am sure my friends would comment on what I write..... Arthy and Sabi please add your comments.... as I am not an expert in writing.

We had invited about 25 of our friends and 23 teachers. 9 teachers could not make it but had given us their blessings and good wishes over the phone. I must mention their names : Sr. Pauline, Mrs. Eula, Mrs. Pristina, Mrs. Annie, Mrs. Rita, Mrs. Findly, Mrs. Teresa, Mrs. Fancisca, Mrs. Berna, Ms. Margaret. It was really disappointing when 10 of our friends did not turn up. All of us were really upset but we just decided to have fun and enjoy the day with our teachers. 3 of our batch mates are currently teachers at our very own MCC. They are Raji, Sheeja Leon and Icy Fernandes.

Anne was the MC for the day and she did a good job at it. The agenda was as follows:
* Moment of silence to remember Our Dear Sr. Patricia and Our Every Loving Linette.
* Floral Welcome by our kids for the Guests and Teachers.
* Rekha presenting the Rolling Trophy in Memory of Sr. Patricia to Mrs. Babu and Mrs. Babu handing it over to Sr. Angel Mary.
* Welcome Speech by Sr. Angel Mary.
* Indu presenting the Souvenirs to Our Dear Teachers.
* Mrs. Babu speaking about 89 Batch.
* Anita Andrade speaking on behalf of the Seniors.
* Sr. Sheena : Vote of Thanks

We were honored and privileged to have 4 Stars from the 86 Batch. I remember calling them the previous night and they readily accepted the invitation and also offered to help us and above all congratulated and motivated us for taking this great step. They were Binu Priya (Head Girl), Anita Andrade (Blue House Prefect), Ajith Hussain (Green House Prefect) and Deepa Chandran (Red House Prefect). Binu bought us a cake as a token of love and appreciation. Cake Cutting by 89 girls were next on the agenda.
THANK YOU SENIORS!

We did a
Presentation with messages/photos from our batch mates but unfortunately could not complete it as our Teachers had to leave for the Annual General Body Meeting of the Anglo Indian Association.
(Click on the word Presentation to view it and then run the slide show)

Lunch was at Xavier's Restaurant, Kadappakada. The surprise package being the Twins got to celebrate their birthday together after many many years :)

We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the company of our Teacher & Friends.

3 Cheers to the 89 Batch!!!

The Story Behind This Great Event

I need to share this with you, as many of our friends were upset as to why we were rushing with this get together in Aug. and why we could not do it at a later date..... Sorry girls the truth is that four of us (Sabi, Arthy, Rekha and myself) wanted to meet as I was down for my vacation... Then this great idea came into us to get as many of the 89 batch. Also we wanted to meet all our teachers and spend some time with them.

Girls we could always plan a BIG ONE :)

Rekha was our main source of contact and trust me then all of us worked together on it and we had about 25 names. You won't believe the routes/extend we reached out to get our friends numbers. Both Rekha and myself were on the phone day and night. Although some of our friends were very cold others were all bubbly and excited. Our teachers were so excited and encouraged us. Not forgetting Sr. Angel, the present Principal who gave us her full support. My parents helped us (Rekha and myself) a lot in organizing this event and so did Sabina, Arthy and Anne..... Sabina & Anne were coordinating in Bangalore and Arthy from Changanassery.

Sabina, Anne and Arthy reached on the 2nd Aug and we met at our place. It was really hectic as we had to arrange a whole lot of stuff like venue arrangements, souvenirs, speeches etc. etc. I have to mention this ....The TRIO (Rekha, Arthy and Sabi) left us after lunch and said would be back with the Souvenirs and other stuff from Quilon.... Guess what time they turned up?? By 7.30 pm. They had fun and also went down memory lane by having stick sweet, ice cream soda etc. etc. Pictures will prove it :)

Our Sincere Thanks to Rekha and Sabu for spending time with us in engraving all the Souvenirs.

Girls you were simply the best!!!!!

Thank you teachers!

It was a rare privilege to meet two great teachers who taught us in school - Ms. Rosamma Cabbot (Biology) and Ms. Delphin (Maths & Physics). Their contribution and influence on students extended beyond the realms of biology, physics and maths that they taught us…value education, life skills, personality development were just a few of those we have imbibed…and have perhaps become intrinsically part of our personality and reflect in the varied spheres of our life…we owe it to you…thank you teachers!

It is amazing to see their enthusiasm, warmth and genuine queries and warm smiles...just the same as we left them way back in 89...was a true homecoming for me. Both Ms. Cabbot and Ms. Delphin were happy to hear about all our batchmates…it was so touching…and very humbling to meet ‘gurus’ in the true sense of the word.

We have promised them of a bigger reunion…so let’s work towards that.

Class of 89- reunions galore in '08 !

Carmelites 89 have been riding high on a nostalgic wave…we’ve had some small but significant reunions in the recent past…to share the good old times.
(pic.the wall hanging at Anne's house says it all:)

Well, the Bangalore trio( as alice has endearingly nick-named us!) met up in Bangalore. It was one great nostalgic trip…Anne Andrade, Deepthy Khadar and Sabina Zacharias were transformed into school girls back in the eighties… a flash back past two decades was too overwhelming...so much to catch up...and often we ended up talking together...... all the school pranks and the fun times…the mount carmel nuns, our good old teachers … even trying to recall the lines of the school hymns.

(pic. having a great lunch mostly cooked by us ( i mean anne) at deepthy's house)

I meet Rekha whenever i'm in Kollam... fondly known by her surname “ kuttappan” she has been active in linking many of us with her prompt updates on friends, teachers and all the latest from Mount Carmel...she always spares time for friends despite her busy schedule...thanks rekha...keep the good work going!

(pic. rekha and myself in front of...you guessed right...the good old "gujarathi shop")

Rekha and I met Icy Fernandez at Mount Carmel and were proud to know that she works there in the Dept. of English.

(pic. Rekha and Icy against the familiar backdrop of our class x classrooms and the basketball court)

Meera Mani while traveling from Toronto stopped over at Dubai to meet Alice Andrade. They also spoke to Ceena Michael and exchanged a lot of MCC stories. Alice says that Meera has not changed at all, still the bubbly, talkative girl we knew in school. I spoke to Meera later when she was in Tangy and she said that she was delighted to meet Alice and was happy to know that the batch of 89 is in touch via orkut. Meanwhile Alice has been a great organizer. Infact the credit for the “Bangalore Trio reunion” goes solely to Alice. She has also changed the layout of the blog beautifully with her technical expertise.

Alice's "unique" tribute to our beloved teachers of MCC

Well friends, did you ever think that a mere autograph would turn out to be a humble yet befitting tribute to our beloved teachers of Mount Carmel...I'm sure you're going to relive the memories of school, especially our teachers in their own handwriting as you read through the pages of my autograph book...please rummage through your shelves and cupboards and dig out your old autograph books and unravel the memories it holds!. Regards, Alice (Class of '89).
